Ruleset Wizard and Fantasy Grounds
Fantasy Grounds is a product and trademark of SmiteWorks USA LLC. Ruleset Wizard is not developed by SmiteWorks and is not an official Fantasy Grounds product, so please don’t ask them for support with it.
Rulesets and extensions generated with Ruleset Wizard are made for Fantasy Grounds Unity. Compatibility with Fantasy Grounds Classic cannot be guaranteed: SmiteWorks no longer supports it, and some features require Fantasy Grounds Unity.
Ruleset Wizard projects can be used and shared under the Ruleset Wizard license agreement. Any material created for use in Fantasy Grounds must be used in accordance with the Fantasy Grounds user license agreement.
Development and support
Ruleset Wizard is a personal, fan-made project. There is no fixed release schedule, but it is actively developed, and you can follow every new version in the development blog.
Ruleset Wizard doesn’t include a formal support service. However, the awesome Fantasy Grounds community (and I myself) are always happy to help other ruleset developers.
As with any software, save your work often and keep backups of your projects. The Advanced Development mode lets you keep your project in a git repository.
Creating rulesets
Creating rulesets is a complex task. The more automation you want, the harder it gets: you will need to write Lua scripts and to know the CoreRPG object model and how its classes work. Be patient: read the Fantasy Grounds Developer Guide, look at the example projects, the video tutorials and existing rulesets, and ask in the forum or on the Discord channel if you have any doubts. It can be overwhelming at first, but it is very rewarding when you see the results. Don’t give up!
System requirements
- Windows 10 or 11, with .NET Framework 4.7.2 or later.
- Intel Core i3 or equivalent, and 4 GB of RAM.
- Fantasy Grounds Unity, to use the rulesets and extensions you create.
Ruleset Wizard has not been tested on older systems, or on other operating systems with Windows emulators.
